Rev. Paul Wernlund, Lead Pastor  (616) 875-8125 ext. 101

Paul grew up in western Wisconsin and received his B.A. in History from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA.  He received his Masters of Divinity from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI.  Prior to coming to Ottawa Reformed Church in 2013, Paul completed Unit 1 of Clinical Pastoral Education and before that he spent four years serving as the Specialized Interim pastor for two RCA congregations.  He is married to Becky and they have three adult sons. His primary responsibilities as Lead Pastor are encouraging the staff and lay leadership, preaching and equipping the body of Christ for ministry and mission in God's world.  Among his favorite things are traveling, theology, riding motorcycle, spending time with people and eating his own cooking.



Abbie Matthews, Director of Worship & Music  (616) 875-8125 ext. 103

Abbie Matthews has been our Director of Worship & Music since 2015, and is a graduate of Hope College.  Along with a Vocal Performance degree and English minor, she has a background in musical theater, opera, dance, piano, violin and guitar.  A voice over artist and private voice coach, Abbie has won and judged numerous vocal competitions throughout her career, and she has served on the Music and Worship Advisory Board for Kuyper College.  Prior to working with ORC, Abbie was the Director of Music & Dance Ministries for Immanuel Community Reformed Church in Lansing, MI for nearly a decade.  She has used her songwriting gifts as both a worship leader and recording artist, and she has taught lectures on songwriting.  She released a CD of original music, Asking for Answers, in 2005.  Abbie feels immensely honored to use her musical gifts to help bring her ORC family closer to Jesus Christ.


Cassandra DeDoes, Youth Ministries Director  (616) 875-8125 ext. 102

Cassandra was born in Zeeland, Michigan but spent most of her growing up years in Northwest Iowa and Northern Michigan.  She attended Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, IL and received a B.A. in English and Secondary Education.  She also has a M.A. in Psychology from the University of Phoenix.  Cassandra's previous work experience has been varied, including program director at two different summer camps, high school English teacher, 3rd shift night stocker at Meijers, dispatcher at Hope College Campus Safety, and youth director at a church in Grand Rapids.  Her role as Youth Ministries Director includes oversight of all areas of children's ministries at Ottawa Reformed Church with direct development, organization and supervision over junior high and high school programs.  Cassandra has an encyclopedia of games in her head, loves to hang out with teenagers and is a top notch dog sitter!  In her spare time she likes to hang out with the fam, eat, kayak, go on adventures, run, bike or do yoga, or just sit at home and read a book.



Lori Geerts, Kids Hope USA Director  (616) 875-8125 ext. 105

Lori was born in Western Michigan and has made that her home.  She is a single mom of 4 adult children and has one granddaughter.   She has been the Kids Hope USA director at Ottawa Reformed Church and Roosevelt Elementary School in Zeeland for the past 15 years.  Her life experiences have shaped her heart for people, and God is using this thru KHU.  Her primary responsibilities are to share the passion and vision of Kids Hope USA with Ottawa's members, recruiting, training and encouraging them as they meet and mentor with at-risk children at Roosevelt School and connecting with the KHU children and their families, reaching out to them thru the love of Christ and His church.  She enjoys her family, reading, traveling and meeting new people.




Penny Velthuis, Facilities Administrator  (616) 875-8125 ext. 106

Penny was born in Fort Riley, Kansas, but settled down in West Olive, Michigan.  She is married to Michael and they have three adult sons, and two grandsons.  She has worked for Ottawa Reformed Church for 18 years serving as the Facilities Administrator.  Her primary responsibilities are to oversee and care for all of the buildings and grounds, church bus, prepare the facilities for worship, meetings, and weekly use of our members and others that use our facilities.  She enjoys time spent with family, especially her grandsons, road trips with Michael, listening to Christian music, cooking and baking, and home improvement projects.
